How to Donate

Giving is easy! Help us continue to raise money and award scholarships to deserving college or graduate students. The Virginia Press Women Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization. In Their Own Words

“Photography is a tool I use to serve others; it has the ability to tell a story, send a message and advocate for others. For years I resorted to borrowing cameras from friends and relatives. The VPWF scholarship not only enabled me financially to purchase my first personal camera, but it also provided me with the necessary equipment to earn my degree and pursue my passions of loving and serving others. The scholarship was an answered prayer, and I am sincerely grateful.” — Kayla Robbins, Virginia Intermont College, 2012 recipient

“When I received word that I had been awarded VPW’s Agnes Cooke Scholarship in 1995, I cried with joy, as it helped me have the courage to enter graduate school at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Mass Communications. Having been chosen as VPW’s recipient also gave me the courage to apply for the NFPW scholarship the following year, which I also won. Using these scholarships, made possible through the generosity of my fellow journalists, helped secure my graduate degree and cemented my belief that journalism is the best profession in the world, at least the best for me. Now, more than 30 years after having joined VPW, I continue to help raise funds for our scholarships, knowing full well how life changing they can be. I will always be grateful and will always work to ensure that these scholarships go forward. Who knows — we could be helping the next Pulitzer Prize winner.” — Nancy Wright Beasley, author and columnist, Richmond, Va., 1995 recipient

Why They Give

“Throughout my career I’ve had individuals who mentored and guided me. I try to do the same. With the rising cost of higher education, though, mentoring isn’t enough, which is why I contribute to the VPW Foundation. I want to help our future communicators gain the foundation that they need in their careers.” — Cynthia Price, past president, NFPW; past president, VPW; 2012 NFPW Communicator of Achievement

“When I was in college, a modest stipend from a donor to do some research made me feel I was on the right path, that I was a fledgling professional. So that’s why I give to the VPW Foundation. I want students to feel supported and recognized as they pursue their communications careers.” — Julie Campbell, past president, VPW
